as y’all may know, this week we’ve been travelin’ the hills of what some would call the “bible belt” and there’s a ton of churches up here, amen !!! in front of most of these churches are signs (what’s new, we’ve got one in front of ours, too!) but, what i’ve noticed up here is that a lot of the signs have “catchy phrases” meant to catch your eye, scare you?, or let the reader know of the state of their salvation simply by reading the sign … now, i’m not naive and know that this is really meant to simply be something to make folks remember the sign, but, in thinking through it (maybe overthinking?) i started wondering … WHO are they trying to reach with those signs ???? someone who already goes to that church may find it amusing or say an “amen” but, then again, do they really need the sign there ??? and, someone who needs to know about that church, would them knowing that their salvation is in jeopardy with no further info really be inclined to venture inside ??? again … maybe i’m overthinking this, but, for a passerby, that may be the only interaction that they have with the church …. we could also think about the same for our lives … what are we showing the world … by the way we dress, act, say …. to the passerby … is it something that makes them feel comfortable and wants to know more about, or, is it scaring them off ??? just a thought from someone who doesn’t want to read about his salvation from a church sign on the side of the road, but, would rather read about what times the services are and, possibly, what the sermon is going to be on so i could prepare my heart and soul for it 😊 …. ps…. pics attached are not of signs i saw OR the churches they came from, but, instead from welcoming signs instead 😊 ….
