ya know, being married to a teacher means that the countdown to breaks and summer starts in this household starts usually earlier than most, and over the years it’s definitely given me a different view of things, but, then again, i think the years in general have done that too … you see, i used to think that “breaks from school” were breaks from learning, but, and i mean ABSOLUTELY NO DISRESPECT TO THE GREAT TEACHING COMMUNITY, i honestly think that some of the best “teaching” happens during those breaks … please, before piling on, let me explain … as i stated in all caps earlier (and the fact my beloved wife is a teacher!), the professionals do an AWESOME job of teaching the reading, writing, arithmetic, you know, school related, but, when we grow up, what do YOU remember about your childhood … no disrespect to Mrs. Skeen, she was a Keen (see what I did there) 3rd grade teacher, but, it wasn’t the fancy loops in my cursive that I remember, but, being huddled up in the camper in a horrendous rain storm while listening to the indy 500 with my dad and papa that made the “cut” … learning how to tie a square knot with pappeye, or be able to stack bread trays just right with papa, or, ski on one ski … THESE are the things we learn, and, i did pick up some things that i had to unlearn, too, but, you know what, most of these things came during these cherished “breaks” from school … and, guess what … one is coming up now … so, if you’re lucky enough to have a little one in your village, how’s about coming up with some different things that may one day make the “cut” in their grand scheme of things 😊 … i know that’s on the agenda this year for this pappeye 😊 … now, how’s that song go …. school’s out school’s out teacher’s let the ……….
