Grab A Mug and Say Hello To Friends You Know And Everyone You Meet

Ok. Warning warning warning. I saw it, now y’all gotta hear about it.

Who walked into not one but SEVERAL different stores in the month of October to find not only costumes and pumpkins for Halloween but also Christmas trees and ornaments already up for Santa? ….. THIS GUY !!!!

Then again, this is the same guy that wishes everyone a “Merry Christmas” 365 days of the year (no kiddin’, ask anyone!). So we’re just comin’ into the season where I don’t get weird looks back and instead get a similar greeting. So, Merry Christmas, y’all!

What led me to gabberin’ about this today (other than the greenery at the front of a few box stores over the past few weeks) was the coffee mugs in our kitchen, and then the ones in my office. Gifts given lovingly over Christmases past by folks that knew us well enough to know what we’d appreciate.

Some of them are functional, like the “courage” and “grandpa” cup that have seen more tea than the Boston Harbor, and some will never see a drop of coffee or tea because, well, they’re just too meaningful (I’m lookin’ at you, “best dad” mug). But these gifts came to us from people that cared and loved us and are used and loved in different ways.

Reminds me of a couple of other gifts that we received. Cousins. A couple of thousand years ago. While still in the womb John was already preparing the way, letting everyone know about the exciting baby that Mary was carrying. He then spent his incredible entire life letting folks know that someone way more special than he was coming soon.

Just a thought from a guy that will never look at a coffee mug the same way again. And Merry Christmas to All. All Year Round!
