Dontcha love observational ministry? I sure do. God is good — all the time. All the time — God is good. #Blessed.

How many times do you see that hashtag? (For us older folks that’s tic-tac-toe. For the not-so-older folks, a pound sign.) When #Blessed gets slapped on something, it’s usually ’cause somethin’ good showed up. New car. Tasty meal. Happy family. Don’t get me wrong — everybody’d be glad for those. And they are blessings.

BBBBBUUUUUUTTTTTTT.
What about cloudy days? Disagreements? Cranky kids? A car that won’t start? Are we no longer #Blessed?

Every year our Presbytery took the youth on a huge tubing trip. Great fun. Great fellowship. Except 2012. No, the Mayans weren’t right and the earth didn’t end — but Tropical Storm Debby sure caused a ruckus. We had to make a call. Haulin’ a ton o’ kids a couple hundred miles from their parents into sketchy cell service in bad weather didn’t seem like the right one. So we didn’t. Instead of cancelin’, we pivoted. The kids had a great time on the church campus. The chaperones eventually caught up on sleep. And somebody dug me out of the sand. Christ was with us the whole time. Memorable weekend.

One of the most famous Psalms reminds us God is with us — good days and the other kind. And Paul, who wrote a heap of the New Testament, tells how the pain rode along with him even while he preached the Gospel.
God’s blessings don’t punch a clock. His time. His way. Just because we don’t understand ’em doesn’t mean we’re any less blessed.
Just a thought from a guy that started a ministry on the flat of his back in an ICU when he said, “Ok God… You’ve got my attention.”
