Gettin’ ready to put on my robe this mornin’ — and that’s a phrase 30-year-old me woulda swore would never come out of this pie-hole. The Spirit hit me with this one, so here we go.
Toni’d surprised me with a cruise for my 35th. It was a huge deal. The surprise, I mean. That meant more than anything. She’d had to coordinate with my boss for weeks. They’d worked it out so I’d think he was goin’ on vacation, and I’d clear most of my schedule to cover for him. He, in turn, had worked with my leads to make sure I was in the clear without my knowin’ — ’cause at that time, once you left the shores, you weren’t available.
The cruise was awesome. But the fact that so many people came together to make it happen, with the most special person on the planet leadin’ the way… well.
The robe from that cruise is still what I shrug on each and every day. A warm hug and a gentle reminder of how loved and cared for I am. Kinda reminds me of another reminder Someone left behind for us.
When His friends were completely freakin’ out in the upper room, Christ explained that when He headed up to Heaven, He’d send His Spirit back to be with all of us, forever. To comfort us. Like the robe — but a million, no, a gajillion times more love and power. And all we need to do is shrug it on.
He is our Shepherd. With Him we can always move forward.
Just a thought from a guy that has a 21-year-old robe that’s been through a lot — and every stain, tatter, and tear just shows the love in the household.
