Ok … What were you doin’ when you were a young teenager … errrr … Scratch that … I probably don’t want to know .. (i do teach them AND was one!) … how about being visited from an Angel of God and being told that YOU have been chosen to be the mother of the Messiah … That your entire planned out life is going to change completely … Knowing that the town will not believe what’s going to happen and how much more complicated everything is going to be, and … and … and …
When I teach about Mary a lot of times to folks that are learning more than than the “Christmas Story” of the version of events, this is where I’ll see the “aha” moment sink in … If you can stop for a second and realize, this was a young girl that has just had her entire planned out life up-ended, but, instead of freaking out, running way, or saying no, she turned IN TO GOD and said HERE AM I … This girl, to use a phrase that her Son would teach us later, showed the faith of not the mustard seed, but, the entire mustard plant !!! … Now, that’s not all of this, as we know …
Because, a little ways away, her cousin, who had never had kids and was no longer in the age group of folks that had them back then, had also been visited by an Angel just a few months and had been told that she was going to deliver a son (John) that was going to to do great things …. Mary went to stay with Elizabeth before the Jesus’ birth (see above about her hometown! … heck they ran Jesus out of town even years later!) and the two women met up, and while the babies were still in the wombs, even then John started doing his job 🙂 …
With Mother’s Day coming up, i figured i wanted to share my thoughts on a couple exceptional mothers pointed out in the bible, and maybe give a little “cecilized” version of events to bring them into perspective … The pictures today are all taken from Nazareth, with the pic of the best mother (and wife and now mimi!) in the world sitting there in pink praying away in one of them 🙂 … For all of you mom’s (and and “pseudo moms” that fill in, ‘cause, heck it takes a village and we all know that “mother” is dna and “mom” is a title!) … Here’s wishing you a very very Happy Mother’s Day from askapop and connections !!!!
