Soccer Football as long as it’s not an Own Goal

ok …. lil’bit’s almost at an age where he could start getting into his first activity … now, when i was a kid, there were 5 for boys and my parents picked 3 of them that would keep us both out of trouble and active … there was no social media telling them the pro’s and con’s of each and definitely no “experts” popping up on either side of the fence warning them of the 1,000’s of dangers that would certainly befall us if they chose the one that the experts didn’t agree with, just their friends and family, and even when they disagreed, it was done so without trying to sway mom and dad’s beliefs … hmmmmm … the good ole’ days …. it seems now that no matter what we try to do folks will come out of the woodwork to try and tell us why their way of thinking is absolutely the right way to go, which means that if they agree with us, we’ll be bombarded with praise and statistics supporting our decisions while at the same time getting a lot of conflicting information on the other side because, of course, as our buddy Abe had said a century and a half ago, you can’t please all of the people all of the time, and, honestly, in this case, shouldn’t you really be trying to please exactly 3, that being you, your spouse, and your child ??? … now … honestly, what brought this up isn’t the great sports debate but a post that my beloved shared with me yesterday about a trend that’s been making it’s way round the past few years where folks pass “pocket Jesus’” out … same idea but instead of kids and sports, about adults acting like kids and it centering around faith … i get it, to some, and to some denominations, icons are a huge no-no … and, to them, i say, don’t take one, but, i would prayerfully ask them to remember that there’s a LOT of churches out there where icons ARE accepted and, if this is a way that can help someone be a little closer to Him, then, that’s OK too …. my Pappeye used to tell me (i’m going to use “XXX” and “YYY” here so as not to call out any denominations) when i asked him how if we could be going to church “XXX” that had such different beliefs than a church like “YYY” both be considered Christian and he smiled at me in that way only he could and said “honey, i’m sure that there are folks from “YYY” in Heaven just as sure as there are folks from “XXX” in hell, and the other way round too …. God made these churches ‘cause they are what each of the people NEED, not ‘cause He needed only one kind of church” …. this really stuck with me as a teenager and has always been a lesson i remind myself of whenever i see someone doing something different than i …. just a thought from a guy that DOES like to use his hands with football, there, i’ve made my stand 😊 …
