What We Know and Need

for anyone that’s lucky (unlucky?) enough to have had to suffer through any of my classes or tutor sessions on either a math or database or programming platform, you’ve definitely heard me say one or a thousand times “take what we know and find what we need” … it’s not because of any grand teaching strategy more than i’m a simple kind of guy and, well, simple works … if we know we have 2 gizwhitchets and 2 thingamabogs and we need 4 dohickies, well, now we know how to write out the problem … that’s 90 percent of the problem in my book 😊 … a lot of times, we’re given a lot of the pieces of the puzzle, just maybe not in the right order and learning is a lot about putting those pieces together … now why am i rambling on about all of this ??? well, tonight is an open house for Toni’s school and she’s been working (just like all of the other teachers there!) to make it perfect for the kids and parents … today as i was wishing her luck, i was reminded of another school house we visited while in the Holy Land … believe it or not, one where Muslims, Jews, and Christians all had ACTIVE schools there and SHARED the space … it’s a sacred space to all three religions and they’ve learned to work together there … now … back to putting these pieces together … when it comes to youngens and learning … while, I may not be dr spock, I have been around a kid or two and, in my opinion what is needed for a loving, learning environment is … 1) kids …. 2) a safe place for them to learn … 3) involved parents and family … 4) loving and caring teachers and administrators … 5) the “tools” they need to be able to learn ….  now being married to a teacher, you may say “woah!!!!” wait a minute, you put the parents BEFORE the teacher ???!!! … you bet i did … the parents NEED to be involved and engaged … i’ll never forget something i’d read when doing research to become a better parent myself … “you’re with your child more than ANYONE else … it’s our job to give you the knowledge to help your child” … that stuck with me … don’t get me wrong … all 5 pieces of that puzzle are needed to make it whole and without all 5 pieces, it’ll fall apart, but, the point i’m making is that all of us with youngens in our life, be it kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, we’re all here to help these little guys in their learning journey … no matter how well YOU know your ABCs or long division, it may be time to help someone else with it too 😊 … so, we can take what we know and find what we need 😊 …

Questions

How often do you help with youngens homework ??? do you think it’s something that we can help out with ??? (no wrong answers here) ….
