Getting Messy

ok ok ok … just how in the world does a bunch of shoes, a pancake, kids hands, and a clean tray make it into the same ssa ??? welp, strap in and i’ll tell ya, but, first, a quick story and history lesson … years ago, we taught one of my favorite all time Sunday School lessons to the young kids about “Dirty Feet” and Deacons … you see, we taught them that the word Deacon came from the Greek word “diakonos” and meant servant and tied it into the foot washing (one of our Bible readings today) … it was memorable (and involved limburger cheese to really get the point across!) but, i digress, anyhoo, it stuck with this teacher too, you see, it reminded me that we, as Christians, DO need to meet folks WHERE THEY ARE not WHERE WE WANT THEM (time to be pulling logs out of eyes, huh) … so, that means getting OUR feet dirty, too! … so, now on to todays ssa … making breakfast for lil’bit, he’s now full blown toddler and wants to do things on his own, this could definitely go one of two ways … i could play “airplane” and “choo-choo” and probably avoid a melt-down and definitely avoid really messy situation OR i could chop up the pancake, mix it with a little syrup and let him enjoy eating it knowing that there would be a mess to clean up …. one’s easier and going to allow him to grow physically, the other will allow him to grow physically and emotionally while possibly even helping out his day a bit if we get to laugh while he’s goofing off while eating … i’ll bet you can guess which route we took … honestly, i try and take the same approach to my witnessing, trying to meet folks where THEY are, whether it be at church, in a parking lot, at a grocery store, well, you get the picture … and, worry about the “clean up on aisle 5” later by inviting them to church, or, if they’ve told me they’re not ready for that, invite them to my website and share with them the askapop ministry to see if we can’t get their “toe in the water” … this is just a thought from a guy cooking up from flapjacks for his grandchild this fine morning … hope your day is as AWESOME as YOU are !!!!
